The Kingdom of God has been likened to a vine. Jesus said, 'I am the True Vine, and my Father is the Gardener.' Vines can be very tenacious--spreading their life in every direction. When Jesus chose this metaphor, He must have had something like this in mind.
I love the old stone fences that line the county roads of New England. The old stone walls are usually covered in vines. Thriving on one side of the wall, a vine eventually finds its way over to the other side.
The name 'Over the Wall' catches something of this irresistible, tenacious nature of Kingdom life. Since we are the branches of God's amazing vine (John 15:5), no walls ought to hold back His life from freely spreading through us--in our communities, in the challenging City and around the world.
